Fall Into First Grade!

WOW! It is amazing how fast this year is going already. Normally I will try and blog once a month to update you on what is going on in our classroom but the beginning of the year is always a little crazy!!! :) We kicked off the year with an assembly that revisited our bucket filling theme from last year. We are really stressing this year how EVERYONE has a bucket that needs to be filled. If you haven't checked it out yet go and read the book, "Have You Filled A Bucket Today?" by Carol McCloud.

We have had a BUSY last few weeks. Last week was homecoming week at the high school and we were able to go and enjoy the parade on Friday afternoon.

During writing and after lunch we have been reading Pete the Cat books. Pete the Cat has his very OWN website that you can check out with your kids.
Click on the following link to see a list of  Pete the Cat books. http://www.petethecat.com

On Monday of this week we went on a nature walk around the school. We had to be good explorers and use our senses on our walk. Today we blogged about our nature walk. Listed below are steps to go check out your child's blog.
1.    Go to the following website: http://kidblog.org/MrsHighsClass-5

3.    Click on your child’s most recent post
4.    Leave a comment if you want J

On a personal note Lydia Joy is growing up so fast and we are loving every minute with her. For all of you Husker fans…here is a BIG, "GO BIG RED!" from Lydia.

Picture Walk Through December!

Here are some pictures of things that we did in December!
On the last day of school before break we got to bring out favorite stuffed animal to school because the class earned 20 PAW awards for being safe, being respectful, and being responsible. We took our "friends" everywhere with us including the school sing-along. :)

We made silly faces with our stuffed "friends".

During art we made elves so that we could help Santa during the busy Christmas season. Each of them turned out so unique.

We also made Rudolph peering into a window.

On the last day before break we always have a school sing-along. This is a great time as a school where we get to sing Christmas carols and be together before the long break.

I hope each and every one of you had a very merry Christmas and I am so excited to be back at school. This week we are reading penguin books and making penguins in art. We are also working on the trait of organization in writing and working on using transition words. This week we are using transition words like first, next, last to write how to make hot chocolate.
