Snapshots In First Grade!

Happy NEW Year!
We are off to a great start in 2015 and I am excited for all of the fun things we have to come this semester in first grade.
In November we worked on an All About Me project. The students were able to create themselves using construction paper and then wrote about a few of their favorite things.

In November we read a book about turkeys disguising themselves so that they weren't cooked for Thanksgiving dinner. The students then pretended like they were farmers and had to create a poster to find their missing turkey. This was a really fun Thanksgiving writing project.

My reading friends made their reading goal and so we had a stuffed animal day in our class. It was so fun to see my students reading to their stuffed animals!

In November we made pilgrims and wrote about different things that we are thankful for.

Elves invaded our classroom during the month of December. We made elves and filled out an elf application. On the last day of school we went on an "elf hunt"! The kids really enjoyed this activity.

Fall Into First Grade!

WOW! It is amazing how fast this year is going already. Normally I will try and blog once a month to update you on what is going on in our classroom but the beginning of the year is always a little crazy!!! :) We kicked off the year with an assembly that revisited our bucket filling theme from last year. We are really stressing this year how EVERYONE has a bucket that needs to be filled. If you haven't checked it out yet go and read the book, "Have You Filled A Bucket Today?" by Carol McCloud.

We have had a BUSY last few weeks. Last week was homecoming week at the high school and we were able to go and enjoy the parade on Friday afternoon.

During writing and after lunch we have been reading Pete the Cat books. Pete the Cat has his very OWN website that you can check out with your kids.
Click on the following link to see a list of  Pete the Cat books. http://www.petethecat.com

On Monday of this week we went on a nature walk around the school. We had to be good explorers and use our senses on our walk. Today we blogged about our nature walk. Listed below are steps to go check out your child's blog.
